Munkensdam Gymnasium is a Danish high school, founded in 1979 and is located in the city of Kolding. The school has about 850 students, aged between 15 and 20, distributed over 3 years groups and 30 classes (equivalent to freshman, junior and senior year). The staff consists of approximately 90 employees, of whom 70 are teachers. The school and management are led by Principal Per Møller.
The school welcomes 10 new classes a year and each class has its own distinctive profile (called “studieretning”), which is determined by the subjects taught. Overall, the profiles emphasise either sciences, social studies or languages (English, Spanish, German or French). All students have a number of mandatory subjects as well, regardless of class profile, such as Danish, English, History, Mathematics and Physical Education. The high school diploma grants access to tertiary education, for instance university, provided that the student has a sufficient GPA.
The school collaborates with a number of different schools throughout Europe and each year we welcome a handful of exchange students. Furthermore, each class goes on an international study trip in their second year.
